CLGW Launches New Learning Lab Funded by $98,400 OTF grant from Ontario Government

Guelph, ON – On Wednesday, local MPP Mike Schreiner met with the team at Community Living Guelph Wellington to celebrate the impact of a $98,400 Seed grant they received from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant funded the launch of the organization’s new Learning Lab.

“This grant will enable frontline workers at Community Living Guelph Wellington to continue to serve adults with developmental disabilities recognizing the unique strengths and challenges of each person,” said Mike Schreiner, MPP for Guelph. “Thank you to CLGW for creating the Learning Lab and for sharing its benefits with community organizations across our region. I also wish to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this grant that will impact thousands of frontline service professionals and the families they support.”

The upgraded facility, along with a mobile learning lab, will provide over 7,000 hours of annual training for 450 frontline workers in Developmental Services. To date, CLGW has trained nearly 500 Direct Support Professionals on the AlayaCare platform using this facility as part of its Connect and Plan Services (CAPS) initiative — the organization’s digital transformation designed to better serve people with developmental disabilities. It includes a mobile lab that allows staff across Wellington County (covering more than 2,600 sq. km) to access training without the need to travel. In addition, the Learning Lab serves as a hub for other non-profits, helping to strengthen the broader social services sector.

“This new Learning Lab represents a major step forward in how we support both our staff and our community,” said Cindy Kinnon, Executive Director of Community Living Guelph Wellington. “With the support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we’re not only enhancing training within our own organization but also creating a space where other community organizations can access the tools and resources they need. This investment strengthens our ability to provide high-quality, person-centred support and builds capacity across the entire social services sector in Wellington County.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
