While the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals wrap up after American Thanksgiving, we shift our focus to Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day for giving. While shoppers eagerly participate in sales events on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a chance to step away from buying and focus on giving. It’s a day where generosity and gratitude could make a life-changing difference for many in your community.
This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking our community to help support CLGW’s Grocery Assistance Program (GAP).
We have seen an alarming increase in the number of people accessing the GAP.
If you're the grocery shopper in the house, you too have felt the sting of increased cost of goods. I bet you've also seen an increase in your utilities costs. For someone on a fixed income, the cost of living increase is beyond difficult. And while the government has made promises around ODSP, we still have a long way to go before anyone on ODSP is able to afford our current cost of living.
Between now and the new year, with your support, we hope to raise enough funds and groceries to stock the GAP through all of 2023. It's an ambitious goal, but we think we can do it with your help.
To refresh your mind, CLGW supports more than 600 people across Guelph and Wellington County. We provide support in a variety of ways: Supportive Living (24/7, Modified and Supportive Independent Living), Day Services, Passport, EmployMEnt Options, opportunities through the University of Guelph and more.
The Grocery Assistance Program is available for adults with disabilities who are living independently to access a food top-up when they experience food insecurity. Nearly one in six of the people we support are living independently in our communities and many of those access the GAP alongside their local foodbanks to make ends meet.
2019 was the last year we made an intentional Giving Tuesday ask. Together, we raised nearly $8,000. That kind of generosity could absolutely make a huge difference for the GAP as we prepare for 2023.
Your help today, and in the coming weeks, is greatly appreciated.
