24 June 2020

Dear Frontline Warrior,

Today, we recognize you. As part of an initiative by CUPE, June 24th has been designated as Developmental Service Worker Appreciation Day.

The work that you do is a vital part of our community.

You care deeply about the work that you do. You take the time to get to know the people that you are supporting, ensuring their needs and wants are always part of their everyday life.

You encourage growth. As you stand alongside the people that you support, they will choose the life that they want to lead. You are there, every step of the way, and often you are becoming a self-learned expert to support all that they are interested in.

You are seen as a leader for those you are supporting. You are asked questions about everything, and you are looked to as a source of wisdom and knowledge. What you know and share with the people you support is valued, and you do this with so much strength and positivity.

You advocate often. You take up the torch to make sure that the people you support have access, opportunity and possibility at every turn. Through your advocacy, our communities are becoming more inclusive and more thoughtful.

You act as an educator for your friends and family, for people in our community to learn more about disability and the rights of all of those who are living, working, and volunteering in our neighbourhoods.

You are so much, and you do so much with pride.

These past 3 months have been anything but ordinary. Your strength in the face of uncertainty and change has been calming and something to admire. You are doing a great job. You are rising to the occasion. You are making a difference and it shows.

Today, along with every day, we appreciate your service to the people that you support and our community.

On behalf of the Community Living Guelph Wellington Board, thank you for all that you do, and all that you bring to the table for the people we support.

With gratitude,
