Wanderlust.
One of the big impacts many of us face because of this pandemic is limitations on travelling. Whether it's to a sunny destination or to see family in another province, not being able to travel has made things tough.
Meet Suzanne.
We met up with Suzanne for her We've Got This photo on a path she's walked many times. In fact, she's become a bit of an expert when it comes to the paths around her house, and she'll gladly head out for a walk. She was quick to warn us that some paths run into a dead-end, so you may walk them and then end up heading right back from where you came.
Suzanne's shoes have seen a lot of trail time.
That's because the trails have been helping her to move, to safely get outside, and to 'travel' while staying close to home.
Before COVID began, Suzanne had upcoming travel plans to visit her family out west. The pandemic cancelled those plans. When things seemed to be turning up, she was working with her support team to re-schedule the visit, but flying just hasn't proven safe enough yet. Even though we're in our third lockdown here in Ontario, she remains hopeful she'll be heading west as soon as it's safe to do so. She's even gotten the vaccine, just to be ready as soon as it's safe to do so.
In the meantime, she hopes these photos reach her a family as a quick "hello".
Hello Suzanne.
This photo series began as partnership between Community Living Guelph Wellington and Elle Chic Photography to showcase people’s “We’ve Got This” spirit. These photos tell a story. They are a testament of how people have persisted, how they’ve managed… how one year later, we’re still saying we’ve got this.
Read about why we started the We've Got This photo series here.
Additionally, May is Community Living Month. To help us jump start this photo series, we reached out to our community, our direct support professionals and the people they support, asking if they wanted to showcase how they have been managing the pandemic – their “We’ve Got This” spirit. The response has been incredible.
All throughout May, Community Living Month, you will see photos on our social media channels from those who wanted to join in.
We invite you to join in too.
